When you hear Bali wedding, you just know it’s going to be amazing, but John and Chloe’s celebration in Canggu was truly something above and beyond. We’re so excited to share about their destination wedding in this post!

John & Chloe’s Bali Wedding in Canggu
Canggu is a beautiful coastal village in southwestern Bali, and it made for the most incredible backdrop for John and Chloe’s wedding.
They brought 30 of their closest friends and family members to celebrate with them there. It was so special to see their guests travel from all over the world to be there to support them. Even though it was an intimate group, the festivities felt very full in a beautiful way. The energy of everyone coming together from across the globe to celebrate was amazing.
John is actually a childhood friend of Chris’s, so we have had the pleasure of knowing Chloe throughout their entire relationship. Watching their love story unfold over the past ten years and then getting to be there to capture their wedding day was truly an honor. We love every wedding we get to photograph, but this one was extra special because of this personal connection.

A Stunning Bali Villa Wedding
John and Chloe rented a gorgeous villa in Canggu, where most of their guests stayed together for several days around the wedding. This made the whole celebration feel more like a weekend with your closest people than a traditional wedding.
The architecture and layout of the villa were perfect for the wedding, too, with so many beautiful spaces and photo backdrops to work with throughout.
When it came time for the party, the reception area by the pool was styled so elegantly with modern decor and simple, stunning florals that felt inspired by Bali’s terrain. It all felt like the perfect balance between refined and relaxed, which was so fitting for a tropical destination wedding like this one.

A Rain Mover to Save the Day
Right after family photos and just before the ceremony, it started to rain. For a moment, we weren’t sure if we’d need to move the ceremony indoors. But their planner called in a “rain mover,” which is a tradition in Indonesian culture, locally called pawang hujan, where a local spiritual figure performs a ritual to redirect the rain.
And it worked! The sun came back out just in time for the ceremony, and we were able to keep the rest of the festivities outdoors as planned.

An Emotional Bali Wedding Ceremony
The ceremony itself was one of the most emotional we’ve had the honor of photographing. John, Chloe, and just about everyone in the audience shed a few tears (as well as lots of laughter). That combination of deep emotion and pure joy is exactly what we love about intimate weddings.

After the ceremony, everyone had a blast celebrating together with lots of dancing and plenty of fun. John and Chloe and some of their guests even wound up jumping in the pool at the end of the night 🙂
